Trinity United Church is looking for dynamic and enthusiastic part time Music Director!
The Music Director enriches the congregation’s worship and spiritual life through music. In Partnership with the Lead Minister and Worship Team, the Music Director is responsible for planning, leading and directing music for worship services.
This is a part time position (estimated 15 hours a week) and is scheduled to commence in October, 2016.

Trinity United Church is based in Vernon British Columbia, which is the hub of the North Okanagan, found nestled in the grassland hills and surrounded by three lakes. Vernon provides an eclectic community for families to enjoy through active participation in sports, recreation, cultural and spiritual activities.

We have a 25-member choir, a 3-Manual Rogers organ and Yamaha grand piano. Trinity United Church is also open to alternative music styles including music from other countries and cultures and through the use of a variety of musical instruments.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
The Music Director will:
Work with the Lead Minister and the Worship team in selection of anthems and other service music, with additional support from the Music Committee.
Plan music and lead choir in rehearsals and worship services.
Choose choral literature according to seasons of the church year, special events and themes.
Be willing to use both traditional and contemporary music styles and explore new music, and be open to new forms of musical leadership in worship.
Fulfil role of service accompanist (pianist/organist).
Provide oversight to assistant accompanist.
Work with the Family Coordinator to expand our music programming for youth and children
Organize and rehearse with additional musicians as required (e.g. instrumentalists, singers, chimers, percussionists).
Be responsible for some services outside of Sunday worship.
Organize occasional Gifts of Music as needed; arrange for music presented during the summer months.
Engage in ongoing professional development in consultation with the Lead Minister.
Provide input and guidance in the preparation of the annual music budget
Attend meetings as required.

The Music Director will:
Exhibit strong music leadership skills
Work independently, be responsible and self-managed.
Have high keyboard competence
Have an advanced level of education in music or music education (university or conservatory).
Have experience as a choral director.
Be competent in, and comfortable with, both traditional forms of worship music and contemporary and emerging forms of church music
Be familiar with the ethos, structure and practices of the United Church of Canada.
Be a practicing Christian
Salary is based on education and experience guidelines of the Royal Canadian College of Organists
Continuing education expenses are reimbursed, not to exceed budgeted amount.
The Music Director has the right of first refusal for playing at weddings, funerals and memorial services. Remuneration for these services is payable to the Music Director and is separate and in addition to Music Director’s salary.
Compassionate/bereavement leave – in consultation with the Lead Minister, guided by Trinity’s personnel policies.
Termination – unless dismissed for cause, two weeks’ notice will be given for termination by either party – no termination pay, beyond Employment Standards legislation will be given at the end of employment.
Remuneration and benefits will be reviewed annually by the Lead Minister, guided by Trinity’s personnel policies.
