Trinity United Church hosted the World Day of Prayer service on Friday, March 2, 2018.

The service, written by the women of Suriname with the theme All God’s Creation Is Very Good! provided an opportunity for Christian people all over the world to learn about the country of Suriname (formerly Dutch Guyana) and to focus on how each of us can become more environmentally conscious. The service was attended by 173 people from a dozen different denominations and their generous offering amounted to over two thousand dollars. The offering is sent to Women’s Inter-Church Council of Canada and provides grants for projects to benefit women touched by injustice.

Trinity people were enthusiastic in their support of the World Day of Prayer service. Joy Savoie and the Prayer Shawl Knitters knit enough pocket prayer shawls to present as gifts to everyone who attended the service. Barbara Hartley created two beautiful fruit and flower arrangements – one for the sanctuary and one for the narthex. U.C.W. members, coordinated by Kate Sladen, served up a banquet of delicious Suriname goodies and fresh fruit. Elaine Schmidt, Debra Fisher and Shirley Grabinsky prepared displays and decorated the hall in the colours of the Suriname flag.

Coordinators Shirley Grabinsky and Elaine Smith extend a heartfelt thanks to Don Seaton and Paul Burke for their technical expertise that enabled the service to proceed so smoothly, to Alice Hanson for playing both piano and organ, to Suzanne Niedballa from St. James Catholic Church for leading the singing and to everyone who helped welcome the community into our church on that special day. Well done, Trinitarians!
