Refugee Team Update – Nov 2016

It has been over a year now since we began our work to sponsor refugees.

Our first family, Pari and Martin, a mother and son have been in Vernon for 4 months now. They are settling into Vernon very well. Pari is taking English classes at VDISS Martin is taking upgrading course at the college. We will continue to support them for another 8 months.

Our second family, Noura Deeb and her daughters Madelen and Claire remain in process with Immigration but we have had some progress. In late Sept we received pre-notification that Noura had been given an exit visa and that she would arrive in 4 – 8 weeks. Unfortunately, Madelen and Claire are not travel ready. Somehow, their linked applications became unlinked. We have now heard that Madelen and Claire’s applications have been moved up in the queue. Claire has been called for an interview at the Canadian embassy in Abu Dhabi this week. Madelen has still not received an appointment.

At this point we don’t know if Noura will come on her own or if one or both daughters will come with her or when any of them will arrive!

We will be responsible for financial and social support for them for a year.

On behalf of the Refugee Team, I’d like to thank members of the congregation for their on-going financial support. If you would like to donate to the refugee fund, you can provide a cheque made out to TUC and marked Refugee Fund or donate through the TUC website. Donations are tax deductible.
