Our primary identity is that we are MADE in God’s image!
Today is Pentecost – our celebration of the Holy Spirit being poured out into all of creation! We first encounter the Holy Spirit at the very beginning of the Bible, in the creation narratives of Genesis, where we’re told of the sacred hovering [i] of God’s Spirit over all creation, and then also as God breathed [ii] life into the first of humanity. [iii] Later in the Old Testament we read of how the Holy Spirit came upon certain people…
Like an earthquake, our ground can shift. How will this transform us?
Pentecost Sunday is one of my favourite high holy days in the church calendar year!
The Pentecost story of speaking new languages is a reminder to us of how the Spirit gifts us and empowers us to do what we otherwise couldn’t do, or wouldn’t do.
Sharing our story is at the heart of what we are about as a Christian community.
I think it’s time for us to go deeper into our own story, to seek direction from that story, to seek our purpose there.
How closely does our church, what we are doing as church today, resemble the church that was born on the Day of Pentecost?
